My Florence Experience: Designer outlets and an Asian wedding

Three days into our whirlwind Italy trip, Jenn and I have left the Cinque Terre for Firenze (Florence) to attend a wedding. Jenn went to an American high school in Taiwan with the bride and groom (Christina and Conrad) who have been dating for fourteen years. The kicker -- they spent ten of those years very long distances removed from one another. Talk about dedication, and deserving a wedding in Florence!

The wedding itself, though relatively small, had guests from Japan, china, Taiwan, Spain, germany, France, and (obvi) the united states. It was easily the most organized and smoothly run wedding I have ever attended. I've also never seen so much free food and alcohol, as all guests were treated to three gigantic meals at the welcome dinner, wedding, and farewell brunch. Most of the food was specific to Florence, except for the brunch, which comprised of fresh sushi and other tasty Asian dishes.

Much like our time spent in Florence, the wedding festivities were atypical (specifically, of Asian culture). For example, the bride wore a gorgeous red dress bought in nyc's Madison avenue, the wedding (which is better described as a 'celebration party') took place at a posh modern loft, and the goodbye brunch was in a chic art gallery displaying the half naked models of Miles Aldredge's photography.

Me and one of the only other white girls at the 'celebration party' were made a spectacle of when Jenn and her friends thought it would be fun to teach us to sing the chorus of Chinese pop song 'Jie Mei" to Christina. In front of a predominantly elder asian crowd, we regurgitated the lyrics we learned minutes before, and the looks on everyone's faces, especially christina's, were priceless. I plan to download the song when I get back, memorize lyrics to the entire song, and bring out my hidden talent at my next Asian wedding :).

In the little free time Jenn and I had to explore, we did a lot of walking, shopping and gelato devouring. The morning of our second day in Florence, we took a desiger outlet tour, where I bought my first pair of designer sunglasses, by Miu Miu, at the heavily discounted rate of 80 euro. On our last day, we accidentally found the replica of the statue of David while we were walking through side streets to brunch. Given this was neither of our first times in Florence, we decided to keep things culturally light and indulge in the more materialistic pleasures of the city.
